Still no line between assignments?
If you use the box to the right of the bullet box in the edit bar, it will automatically put a line in.
Check your linking. Almost everyone linked incorrectly to the 'here' page when the link is supposed to be to the 'AND THEN THERE WERE NONE'' page.
Lastly, when writing two or three events from each chapter, the directions asked you to continue doing this in assignment 4. If you cut and paste, you should be able to switch them around in the correct order.

Chapter 3- Assignment #3 (12-3-09)
-Choose 5 characters
-Write two sentences telling what you know about him or her.

*Mr. Owen- Mr. Owen owns the island and where all of the guests are staying. He invited Mr. and Mrs Rogers to come to Indian Island in a letter.
*William Henry Blore- He pretended to have the name of Mr. Davis. He is an ex-C.I.D man and runs a detective agency in Plymouth. When the recording came on, it said that he brought about the death of James Stephen Landor on October 10th, 1928.
*Anthony Marston- He is a young man who is very good looking. His friend, Badger Berkley wired him and told him to arrive at Indian Island. When the recording came on, it said that he was guilty of the murder of John and Lucy Combes on November 14th.
*Emily Brent- She recieved a letter with a signature that was not very easy to read. She thinks it was from a women she met at a resort a few years ago. When the recording came on it said that on november 5th, 1931, she was responsible for the death of Beatrice Taylor.
*General Macarthur- He has a white moustache. When the recording came on, it said that he killed his wife's lover on July 4th, 1917.
Katie-
Good job of finding information about these five characters. Don't repeat the same phrase 'when the recording came on'; use transitions to vary the sentence structure and make it more interesting to read. Check for spelling errors as well (recieved, november).

  • Assignment #2 (to be done in class on Wednesday, December 2)
  • Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
  • Read chapter two.
  • On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
  • Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
  • 12-2-09
  • Foreshadowing
  • Example 1- And smiling to himself, he began to make plans, fantastic plans for the future.
  • Example 2- The Ten Little Indian Poem
  • Example 3- He was going to enjoy that week.
  • Example 4- But he felt uneasy.

Example 1 is a good example of foreshadowing because Dr. Armstrong was making fantastic plans for the future. He knows that he has to make plans because he is leaving his old life behind. Example 2 is a good example of foreshadowing because the poem is about 10 little Indians, and 10 guests were invited to Indian Island. The poem states that each Indian dies, so that is probably how each of the guest gets killed. Example 3 is a good example of foreshadowing because Philip Lombard says that he is going to enjoy his week on Indian Island, so the reader wants to know what he means by that. Example 4 is a good example because he doesn't know what is going to happen while he is on Indian Island. _

Katie-
Another good job of finding examples of foreshadowing. When you write your paragraph, you shouldn't include 'Example 1 is a good example of foreshadowing, Example 2 is a good example of foreshadowing, etc. '. It makes your paragraph monotonous. You can weave your ideas throughout the paragraph successfully without including the repetitive phrases.
Also, don't forget to add a line between the two assignments as listed up above. Click on the box to the right of the bullet box, and you will get an automatic line.

11-30-09 Assignment #1

how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?A mystery novel differs from a narrative because in a mystery there is a bigger problem to be solved than in a narrative. In a mystery the characters find clues to help them solve the problem. A narrative usually has a problem that revolves around just one character or thing, and that character or thing tries to solve his or her problem. Mysteries have plots that can twist, and can be totally unexpected, and narratives are usually more predictable.

How might the title be a clue to the story?

The title might be a clue to the story because the title could be an important name or location that could be helpful in finding out the solution to the problem. The title

could be helpful in this story because the phrase could be vital in finding out the solution to the mystery.

Katie-
Good job. You have a clear explanation of the difference between the two novel types.
You should italicize the titles of books.
